This Holiday Season Choose Toys that are Eye Safe
Holiday season is just around the corner and we all know what that means, dolls, radio controlled airplanes, and Leapster Explorers. Well intentioned aunts and uncles enjoy treating the little ones to the coolest toys to start off the New Year.
Leading optometry specialists advise that family members instruct others about the guidelines about safe and age appropriate toys. Mishaps involving toys and games can occur, occasionally causing damage to eyes, or even blindness.
What are some rules to safeguard children from toy related eye injuries?
- Only buy toys which are appropriate for the child's age. Do not allow younger children to play with toys meant for older brothers or sisters.
- Look for a toy that is made of strong, durable material and stay away from toys with sharp corners. Make sure toys with a handle such as bats or pony sticks are smooth on the end.
- Supervise small kids as they play.
- Promote eye safety by steering clear of any toys with sharp or jagged pieces or catapult launchers.
Before purchasing that new toy or game that your child absolutely ''needs'', spend some time to look over eye safety precautions when it comes to children's toys. The holidays are a great time for creating special moments with your loved ones, not the emergency room doctor. Happy Holidays.
